Accommodation

The LOC has organised a special discount at Budapest Hotel. If you want to stay at this hotel please use this link (and please do not forget about the promotional code - see in the relevant email).

There are no fixed hotel prices so that you might have to pay more the longer you wait with your booking. September is still tourist season and thus, prices per night and person can reach more than 100 Euro. If you want to look for other accommodations it might be useful to check the closeness to the Metro lines, especially line 2. This line goes directly to the station where you have to change for the bus to Konkoly observatory.

Travel from Hotel Budapest to Konkoly Observatory

Option 1

Close to the Budapest Hotel there is a tram stop (Városmajor, please note that there is a vending machine at the stop). From that point, you can take trams 56,56B,59,59B, and 61 to travel to Széll Kálmán square, which is the second stop from there. Right near the tram stop at Széll Kálmán square there are stairs and outdoor escalators (see below). After climbing up, turn left and you will soon reach the stop of bus 21/21A (see below). If you take bus 21, you should get off at the stop Csillagvizsgáló (stands for 'observatory' in Hungarian), which is the next stop after Normafa. The route takes about 20 minutes. Now you are at the gate of Konkoly Observatory (the board says: Magyar Tudományos Akadémia Konkoly Thege Miklós Csillagászati Kutatóintézete). Bus 21A does not go to the Observatory, its route ends at Normafa. The Konkoly Observatory is located on a short walk distance from there. You should walk a few metres back from the bus stop and then take the Konkoly-Thege street that is perpendicular to the road where the bus arrived. You should be at the observatory gate in a few minutes (on your right).

Option 2

As an alternative route you can use the Cogwheel Railway (tram 60) that also runs from the Városmajor park (its terminus is located near the tram stop, close to the Budapest Hotel). Please note that the Cogwheel Railway are less frequent than normal trams or buses (its timetable can be found here). If you choose this option you should get off at the Svábhegy stop (7th stop) and change for bus 21 or 21A that will take you to the Observatory (see above).
